The Fire Beam Xtra Beam Detector

The Fire Beam Xtra Beam Detector

The standard Fire Beam Xtra package comes complete with the head unit, the low level controller, a single reflector, a user manual and a 3mm allen key. This will enable you to cover distances up to 70 metres. To cover distances over 70 metres just add one of our range kits to extend the coverage up to 160 metres.

The new Fire Beam Xtra Beam Detector now covers up to 160 metres

Soon after we launched the original Fire Beam back in 2005 it became the professional choice in beam detection.
Not wanting to rest on our laurels, our world renowned design team has listened to our customers and we have now created the Fire Beam Xtra.
Incorporating many of your suggestions and adding our own new innovations, the new Xtra model is a permanent replacement for the original Fire Beam and the outgoing Plus model. The result has further refined this already extraordinary market leader.
With new enhanced optics you can cover distances up to 160 metres, meaning for distances over 100 metres you no longer need to use two beams, saving both time and money.

So what’s new with the Xtra model?

New Revised Optics: This new design incorporates all the leading features we have honed over the years and with the latest advanced components we have produced a VdS approved fully compliant to EN 54-12:2015 beam detector that out performs all other beams in the market place.

The Fire Beam Xtra Beam Detector offers amazingly fast commissioning timesFive Times Faster: We have designed completely new linear stepper motors which have resulted in amazingly fast commissioning and routine maintenance. Under test conditions at 40 metres we recorded an auto-align time of 3m02s using the Fire Beam straight out of the box. Once aligned a routine re-alignment was timed at just 1m07s. This is class-leading performance not only in terms of speed but also in terms of advanced robust design built for precise purpose.

Multi Language Support: The Fire Beam Xtra has the ability to display seven different languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, and Czech. A feature that is welcomed by our ever increasing international customers as we now sell to 62 countries around the world.

Auto-Align On/Off: Although rarely needed, this facility allows you to turn off the auto-alignment in normal service, should the environment be liable to occasional contamination (such as theatres with fake smoke). As motorised beams work by seeing the reflector, if they are unable to because of unavoidable obscuration they can fall out of alignment when trying to find the obscured reflector.

The Fire Beam Xtra will remain in perfect alignment in these environments simply by not trying to re-align itself. Auto-alignment will still continue to work in commissioning modes. This facility is best suited to beams that are mounted on solid surfaces that are not susceptible to building movement at all. For buildings that are liable to movement (such as metal warehouses) we have also built in a new delay function that can be used instead (see below).

Auto-Align Time Delay: Again this facility is useful in environments that are liable to occasional short term obscuration. Adding a delay means that the beam will not check for alignment if the received signal drops for a predetermined time. Pre-set at 4 hours this can be altered to anywhere between 0 to 12 hours if required, to allow the environment to clear.

Beam Phasing: It is possible that beams that face each other will cause problems as their sample rates could coincide and result in unreliable readings, meaning false auto-alignment and unreliably in service. With the introduction of phasing it is now possible to mount beams facing each other with reflectors inbetween. There are up to 7 different sampling rates to choose from, alleviating any cross talk problems.

Hysteresis: Changing the hysteresis will change the delay in returning from a fire state back to a normal state. For example, the beam is factory set at 15% so if the beam falls into fire at 65% (35% threshold) it has to recover 15% to 80% before it returns to normal. This action prevents small fluctuations in returned signal causing the beam to fall in and out of a fire state. This can be adjusted to anywhere between 1% and 40%. The hysteresis can simply be adjusted from this new menu option.

The Open Path Gas Detectors include the two series of ds900 and ds700 which we will explain in this post.

Open Path Gas Detector ds 900 Series Laser Detector:

The SafEye Quasar 900 series features the latest open path IR technology that detects a wide range of hydrocarbon gases including alkanes (methane to hexane) and ethylene.
The model can travel up to 660 feet (200 meters) in length, and you can use Quasar 900 models to protect high-risk installation.
Reliability and performance are key, and trust this product with SIL2 verification and performance testing, and having FM and EN standards.

Why Open Path Gas Detectors?

Spectrex invented the xenon flash lamp design that revolutionized the open-path gas detection market, which, until then, was plagued by false alarms due to the drawbacks of the previous designs.
Now, Open path detectors complement the use of individual point detectors, take executive action and offer many significant benefits including:
• Wider area coverage
• Most likely method to pick up any leak
• Very high speed of response
• No unrevealed failure modes
• Beam block warning
• Detector location is less critical
• Size of gas hazard indicated

Applications include:

• Offshore platforms & FPSOs
• Petrochemical plants
• Chemical processing plants
• Gas filling and distribution terminals
• Gas transport and pipelines
• Large storage areas & buildings
• Perimeter monitoring

Installation Options

QUASAR OFFERS OPTIONS FOR YOUR INSTALLATION:
0-20mA analog output with HART capability
• RS485 Modbus, where up to 256 detectors can be linked

Worldwide Approvals

• Hazardous area (Zone 1) FM/FMC, ATEX, IECEx, GOST R Inmetro
• Performance (3rd party):
FM 6325 approved by FM
EN60079-29-4 tested by FM
• Reliability:
SIL2 (TUV)

HART

HART capabilities within the Quasar 900 can provide digital communications between the field and the safe area.
This can provide real time information on the status of an individual detector as well as configuration and historical data of each device, without the need for extra cable cores.
A key feature of HART is that digital signals are transmitted on the same two wires as the 0-20mA current signal.
Useful and useable information available via HART includes:
• Display set-up
• Reconfigure set-up – such as gas
calibration, heater control, address
• Display detector status and definition
• Perform detector diagnostics
• Troubleshooting
• View Event Log

Open-path Gas Detection Concepts

Not all gas clouds are hazardous – only if a flammable gas cloud or plume is wide enough to allow flame acceleration to speeds greater than 100 m/sec does it become a significant threat.

•Just as an athlete performing the long jump needs a run-up distance, so too a flame front needs distance to reach the velocities which cause the damaging effects of over pressure, pressure pulse and windage.

•The generally accepted quantity of gas that creates the potential to cause consequential damage if ignited is a cloud of the size 5 m diameter a stoichiometric concentration (about200% LEL).

• To provide a safety margin, this concentration is halved to 100% LEL. Thus an open path beam traversing this cloud would indicate 5 LEL.m.

•Location of the SafEye 700S Open-Path Gas Detector is less important than with point type detectors as it provides a warning alarm from a diluted gas cloud and does not need to be close to the leakage source.

• Point type detectors measure gas at their location in terms of % LEL, whereas open-path gas detectors measure the amount of gas anywhere along the length of the path, in terms of the integral of concentration and length (LEL x meters).

Open-Path Applications:

•Offshore Oil & Gas drilling and production
•Petrochemical and Chemical storage and ذproduction areas
•Storage & loading of hazardous materials and waste areas
•Engine & Turbine air intake and modules
•LNG-LPG storage, pumping and filling
•Fence-line emission monitoring
•Storage Tank Farm protection
•Paint industries, including paint-booths
•Bus terminals (natural gas powered)
•Waste disposal and processing
