To be fully secure against fire, flame detector self-testing is not enough. According to most local jurisdictional authorities and as required for SIL2 compliance, you need to test and ensure the integrity of your entire flame detection system at least once per year. That means performing a full system loop test from the detector, through the wiring to the controller, and up to the actual alarm notification. The only way to do so, without lighting a real fire, is with an external flame simulator.

The UV/IR flame detector senses radiant energy in the short wave section of both the ultraviolet and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The signals from both sensors are analyzed for frequency, intensity and duration. Simultaneous detection of radiant energy in both the UV and IR sensors triggers an alarm signal. The UV sensor incorporates a special logic circuit that helps prevent false alarms caused by solar radiation. Due to increased reliability, the 40/40 Series warranty period has been extended to 5 years and is SIL2 (TUV) approved to IEC 61508.

The Xtralis In-Line Filter provides Xtralis customers the ability to address a wide array of harsh environments with high levels of airborne contaminants in a simple and cost-effective manner.

Description

Unlike other in-line fi ltration solutions available on the market, the Xtralis In-Line Filter provides superior performance in terms of improving detector longevity and reducing maintenance frequency. Having tapered inlet and outlet means the Xtralis In-Line Filter is easily fi tted in line with the sampling pipe without the need for any additional pipe fi ttings hence reducing the cost of installation. Filter elements can be easily replaced without having to remove the fi lter from the pipe network hence simplifying maintenance. Its elegant design blends in seamlessly into the installation where up to four can be installed side-by-side on Xtralis multi-pipe installations.

How it works

The arrows on the Xtralis In-Line Filter cover indicate the direction of airfl ow aiding ease of correct mounting. As the airfl ow enters the fi lter housing it impinges on the fi lter elements which are positioned at a certain angle within the fi lter housing. This arrangement maximizes the fi lter element surface area subjected to the airfl ow hence promoting a longer fi lter life.

The VdS approved fire control panel “Solution F2”, which has successfully established itself within several years on the market can now be used as an extinguishing control system for single areas.
